Five Steps to Becoming a Conqueror

Note: This is part two of a two-part article. See yesterday's post for part one.

Yesterday, we talked about being more than a conqueror. Today, let's discuss how we become that way. How do I get my name written in the Lamb's Book of Life?

As a church, we believe that obedience to the Gospel is necessary to obtain salvation by taking the following actions:

  • Believe and have faith that Jesus Christ is the risen Savior of the world
  • Repent of your sins with a desire to sin no more
  • Be baptized by immersion in water for a remission of sins
  • Receive the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands
  • Live righteously, remain faithful, and endure to the end of your life

Simplified even further, there are five steps to follow:

  1. Faith
  2. Repentance
  3. Baptism
  4. Reception of the Holy Ghost
  5. Serve and Follow Him (repeat step 5 daily)

Like any recipe, this one's time-tested, year after year, century after century — and it works. It's written down and shared with as many as will read it. It's supported by the Word of God and, if you talk with anyone who has followed the first four steps and is repeating step five daily, you'll find a common, unifying ingredient: a love for Jesus Christ! It's this love that draws the sincere heart and motivates us to live a righteous life through Christ and Him alone.

Back to the original question. Our name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life when we complete the first four steps (Rev 21:27). It is through this obedience and the ongoing effort inherent to step five that we become more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).

The best way to really know if the recipe is truly successful is to try it out for yourself. "But behold, if ye will awake and arouse your faculties, even to an experiment upon my words, and exercise a particle of faith, yea, even if ye can no more than desire to believe, let this desire work in you, even until ye believe in a manner that ye can give place for a portion of my words." (Alma 32:27).

When you put forth the effort to just move toward step one, Christ will bless your life and lead you to the next step and then the next and the next.

Let's all seek to be more than conquerors through Christ!
