Does God Love Me?

Today, Sister Karen Watford shares a baptism-related experience that God gave her to show His matchless love and care.

After my baptism, I waited for a lovely experience like I had heard from so many of the older brothers and sisters. None was forthcoming. I waited for changes to come into my life like I had heard from others. None were forthcoming.

I was told that perhaps because I had led a good and godly life before my baptism, I didn't need those lovely experiences. Nonetheless, I began to despair that God didn't love me and cried many tears. One night in my prayer I asked God to give me a dream to show me if He loved me. I promised Him that if He would show me, I would never ask for another dream.

That night I dreamed that many of my family members were sitting at the table beside the big sliding glass doors talking and eating. The sky turned black and the wind began to whip the trees so they bent to the earth. As I watched the storm gather strength, I saw a small tornado about 1 foot tall form on the patio outside the sliding glass doors. As it grew quickly to the size of a giant man, I was paralyzed with fear, unable to move, speak or pray. I will never forget the fear that I had in the dream! Suddenly the tornado moved away from our house, and I was able to fall to my knees and praise God for His mighty protection over us. As I was praising God, I saw the tornado return to our house but it jumped over it and went on its way. I awoke still praising God.

The next morning, we had no electricity so my husband, Vaughn, and I got in the car with our toddler, Shawn, to see if there were electric lines down. After we left our small subdivision, we saw a tornado had actually passed through during the night. Large tree limbs and some trees were down on the roads in our area ... just a block away from our house.

God not only gave me a dream but He showed me in real life that He loves me. God answered my prayer so I must uphold my end of the deal. Although many times I wished that I could ask God for a dream to clarify something or guide me, I have never asked for another dream. I continue to praise and petition Him in prayer and He answers as He sees fit. He is a wonderful God who loves His children and shares many tender mercies with them. He knows our needs before we even ask.

Isaiah 65:24, "And it shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."
