Do I Need to Detox?
I'm doing a detox with some of my clients. The purpose is to clean all the toxins from our bodies to help our liver and digestion system work at their best. We have to eliminate certain addictive and inflammatory foods. The dietician in charge gave us a list of the types of foods we can eat and a list of foods we can't have. We have a Facebook support group to encourage each other throughout the three weeks we are doing it.
It's been hard trying to find appropriate foods that we are allowed to eat, and it's requiring a lot of prep and cooking time so that my husband and I eat enough during the day.
The dietician said we should feel terrible initially since our bodies are going through withdrawals from all that processed, addictive food, and, after a while, we should feel better than we have in a long time.
(I'm halfway through this cleanse and I have to say that although I don't feel terrible, I do not feel amazing either.)
This got me thinking. Should I be cleansing myself spiritually? Are there toxic things in my life that have taken me away from being as close to God as possible?
With technology and social media, it's easy to stay constantly connected to family, friends, and peers, but am I constantly connected to God? Scripture provides an outline of things that I should and shouldn't be doing to keep on the right path. Before going to a Church service on Sunday or Wednesday night, I should prep myself so I'm in the right spiritual mindset to get fed. I have brothers and sisters to encourage and pray for me when the going gets tough.
Even though it's not easy to trash the toxic things in my life, I know that it's worth it. When I'm following the straight and narrow path and staying close to God, how can I not feel amazing?
