Coping with the Death of a Loved One

Today's death-related Miracle Monday is the testimony of Sister Betty Alessio, who is no stranger to coping with the loss of loved ones. Today she's sharing some things that brought her comfort and peace.

As I grew up, I faced death of siblings. Some were very tragic and it was hard to accept. When my younger brother was murdered, I was having a terrible time until the Lord started showing me the faces of people who needed an uplift of some kind, and that is when I started helping others. God was helping me along the way to recover from the loss.

The recent death of my husband of 59 years was different. He came down with dementia/Alzheimer's, and I was his caregiver for a few years. One day, he ended up in the hospital, and the doctor told me he needed to be in a facility.

Before this happened, I had been attending a grief class and caregiving classes, and one was at the facility where Brother Jim spent the last five months of his life. I had done all the paperwork, so when it was time for him to be placed there, everything was in order.

I continued with the care classes, and after his death, they asked me to continue with the classes so that I could help others who have guilt feelings and many questions as to how to cope. So, knowing that I am helping others has helped me deal with my own loss. Many have come up to me and thanked me for the advice that I was able to give — I do give God the honor and glory for helping me and for the knowledge that when we pass, we will be in a much better place, meeting in heaven with our Lord and Savior and loved ones who have gone on before.

I must say that the last thing we were to do in our grief class was to write a letter to the one that passed on. It took about a month before I could do this, but when it was done, it meant closure. I must also say that the support of loved ones, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors, has been a great help. Our Dear God is the greatest comforter, and I am so happy He is in my life.

Money Miracles for December

We are still in need of money-related miracles and testimonies for December. There is no need to tie them into the holidays, so don't let that limit you. We want to hear about how God provided financially when things were tight. Did He help you make your mortgage, front a down payment, or pay a hefty tax bill? Let us know about it so we can praise our Great Provider!
