Angels Among Us
Today we're kicking off our angel-themed Miracle Mondays! The first article is submitted by Sister Natalie Pezzenti. We really need more testimonies for this month's theme. If you have an experience that's related to angels in any way, please share it with us!
During my last quarter at college, I struggled with horrible bouts of anxiety and panic attacks. They consumed me on a daily basis and I was living in a constant state of fear and worry. Never knowing when one would strike, I felt alone and frightened.
My doctor at home suggested I try some medication when I felt an attack coming on. I had never needed anything like it previously, so I was quite hesitant. The doctor assured me that sometimes you have to try a few different medications before you find one that does the trick and eases your anxiety. This was the first of those medications I decided to try.
One afternoon after class as I was waiting for the shuttle back to my apartment, I felt an attack coming on. I popped a pill and suddenly felt very, very ill. So ill that I felt like I needed to lay down right on the sidewalk. Feeling utterly alone and panicking about what I should do, I turned to a woman sitting a few feet from me and asked her to help me. She quickly called the campus police who picked us both up and took us straight to the campus health center.
Once we arrived there, the doctor asked me about the medication I took and said that the dosage was far too high for my petite size — this was why I felt so ill so quickly. Instead of leaving once she brought me to the health center, the woman stayed with me the entire time, even calling home to my parents on my behalf to tell them of the day's occurrence and assure them that all would be well.
A few hours later, I was allowed to leave, and I thanked her for all she had done for me, staying by my side the entire time — despite me being a complete and total stranger. Years later, I still remember her and am reminded of her kindness that day. God sent her to me when I needed someone. To remind her of the kind act she did on my behalf, I purchased a small angel figurine to sit on her desk at work and delivered it to her a few days later. I thanked her again for all she had done and told her I believed God used her that day to help me.
She may not have had visible wings or a halo above her head, but to me, on that day — and even now — I believe she was an angel.
They wear so many faces, show up in the strangest places
To grace us with their mercy, in our time of need
Oh I believe there are, angels among us
Sent down to us, from somewhere up above
They come to you and me, in our darkest hours
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give
To guide us with the light of love
