Adapting to Endless Consistency
In my one class, we’ve begun our talk of justice and equality with the general nature of humanity. Our professor asked us to list qualities of the human race, and he wrote them on the board as we gave our ideas.
One of the qualities was “constantly evolving.”
The word “evolution” can be a little controversial, so let me change that to “constantly adapting.”
And that’s the truth; I as a human am constantly adapting to the world around me. However, the world around me is also constantly adapting to me as a human. Therefore, my reality here on earth is unstable. It’s shaky because it’s constantly moving, and I'm constantly moving, too.
But what’s amazing is that while everything here is so unstable, Jesus is not. Jesus Christ is our constant, unchanging, forever the same and ageless Redeemer (Hebrews 13:8).
Since Jesus Christ is the only constant point in this unstable reality, I am always changing and adapting to His constancy in my life. His is the point that I revolve around, and I must adapt to accept His goodness and grace at every turn.
Every time I want to change, He stays the same, thus changing my own consistency.
His constant way of being the same makes me inconsistent because I have to continually adapt to His constancy in my life.
Jesus Christ is amazing because He stays the same even though I am always moving, and most of the time, I'm moving away from Him. But He waits and pursues me no matter which way I'm adapting to Him.
