A Double Blessing

Today's Miracle Monday is the testimony of Sister Erin Light. This is the last of our baptism-related Miracle Mondays. If you haven't sent your feetwashing-related testimony yet, please get that to us ASAP.

I was 13 years old when God called me at a youth retreat in California. We telephoned my grandpa, Brother Russell Martorana, to tell him the good news that his first grandchild would be baptized, and we wanted him to be present. In true form, instead of immediately saying, "Yes, I will be there!" he told us over the phone that he would pray about it, and the Lord would tell him what to do.

My grandparents lived in Ohio, and I live in California, and it would have been great for him to hurry up and buy airline tickets to travel out quickly in the following two to three weeks leading up to my baptism, right?

One of my grandpa's favorite scriptures begins like this, "Counsel with the Lord in all your doings, and he will direct you for good." It's a well-known Book of Mormon scripture that many of us can quote by heart. He took the words literally every day of his life.

Not even one or two days later, my grandpa called us and said he would be coming to my baptism. Why? Because he had prayed to the Lord, and the Lord answered him in a dream. In the dream, he saw himself confirming the Holy Ghost upon me at my baptism, and he heard all the words that he would say during His prayer.

My grandpa could have easily said, "Yes, let's rejoice in this blessing and I will make plans immediately to come for your baptism." But he desired that extra blessing. If we first counsel with God in all things, as the scripture says, then we may see that He has additional blessings to bestow upon us, some we might not even be aware of.

As it turned out, we received word one of his eight sisters asked to be baptized around the same time I asked, and he had the opportunity to baptize her in Arizona one week before he drove out for my baptism. My grandfather came from a very Catholic family, and his sister, Angie, was his only sister to get baptized. Praise God!

Testimonies for March

Feetwashing is such a blessing, and if the Lord has ever given you an extra blessing regarding this ordinance, then please share it with us. We only have a couple of experiences for next month, and we can really use more, so please take a moment and write yours down so that everyone can share in the blessing.
