Remind Me Who I Am

Remind Me Who I Am

Last night, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" was on TV, and it reminded me of a beautiful conversation I saw unfold on Facebook a while back. One of my friends posted the following on her brother's timeline:

Friend: I think about all the stuff you and (other brother) are doing and I hear this little voice in my head that says..."I got a rock."

Brother: Huh? What do you mean?

Friend: You know, from Charlie Brown when everyone is showing all the good candy they got and Charlie opens his bag and says..."I got a rock."

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day!

Have a wonderful Fourth of July, dear brothers, sisters, and friends!

And now it came to pass that when Moroni, who was the chief commander of the armies of the Nephites, had heard of these dissensions [...] he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it — In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children — and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.

And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land

Marrying Outside The Church

Marrying Outside The Church

We're shifting gears back to you marrieds today. May this topic be thought-provoking.

I've been having what feels like the same conversation with different people about this, so I felt I should share it with you.

Growing up, I always thought that the man I married would already be a member of The Church or at least would convert before we got married, just as my grandfather and father had done. I felt that was expected of me.

Living the Single Life for God

Living the Single Life for God

For today's article, we're focusing back on the singles. Enjoy!

Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching! This invokes one of two feelings: pure excitement (usually for girls and women in a relationship/marriage) and misery (for those who are single and, let's face it, some men.) It's a day every year when we're forced to evaluate our love lives, no matter how nonexistent.

Kicking Off the Valentine's Day Series: On Singleness

Kicking Off the Valentine's Day Series: On Singleness

As promised, we're tipping our hats to Valentine's Day with a series of relationship-oriented articles for singles and couples. God instituted marriage, and scripture tells us how to make it work; nonetheless, we still find it a very difficult terrain to navigate. We hope these articles bring you encouragement and point you to God's word.

We also want to make a small disclaimer. We don't want to imply with this series that people in relationships or marriages are more important than people who aren't. If this week's articles don't apply directly to you, we encourage you to glean what understanding you can from them. If you're single, don't skip the articles for marrieds. If you're married, don't skip the articles for singles. It's important that we learn about one another so we can better support each other.

Without further ado, we bring you our first installment, written by Sister Natalie Pezzenti.

The Christmas Story as Told by Mary

Happy Christmas Eve! Today, we bring you the final installment in our Christmas Character Series. Today's article was written by 10-year-old Cristina Scolaro, and Brother Andrew McNamara provided the artwork — yesterday's illustration of Joseph was only part of the larger picture.

One day, an angel named Gabriel came to me and told me that I was favored by God and that I would be the mother of the son of God. I thought, Me, the mother of God's son? That's a huge responsibility!

Shuff, shuff, shuff...

The steady rhythm of my planer slicing delicate shavings from the soft wood pauses at the sound of chirping insects. Glancing up, I notice my workbench gathering a pale orange tinge from the setting sun. Dusk. A cool breeze and dimming sky signal my permission to close shop for the day.
