He Is Here

He Is Here

As promised, today we're kicking off our week of creative Easter stories! We're starting with Sister Alena Ricci writing from the perspective of Mary Magdalene. Before the story, a quick note from Sister Alena:

Let me first begin by saying that this is one of the hardest blog articles I've ever written. Why? Because this woman was the first woman to see Jesus after the resurrection, and she was the one who washed His feet. Because my first thought was: what do I possibly have in common with Mary Magdalene to write as her voice?

And then I realized that we have a lot in common: we are both saved by undeserving grace.

This article is a mash-up of songs, poems, scripture, and any articles or books I could find in my university library (you may recognize some). So I hope that you enjoy this story of the woman to see Jesus after the crucifixion, and that you have a happy Resurrection Day!

Something Special for Easter!

Something Special for Easter!

Dear brothers and sisters, we hope you all have a most blessed Palm Sunday!

We're interrupting our regularly scheduled programming because we've got something special planned on the Blog this coming week — a collection of creative articles inspired by the resurrection. We hope they draw your heart out to the Lord in the days leading up to Easter.

We asked a few of our writers to get a little creative. Each person chose a character from scripture who saw Jesus after His resurrection. The writers tried to imagine how that character might have felt seeing the Lord after His death.

These articles are imaginative interpretations. Just like the Christmas series from 2013, we took a little creative license and, through studying scripture, tried to really connect with the individuals' experiences. We hope these articles inspire you to do the same.

Even though we can't go back in time and actually witness Christ's resurrection, we can still personally encounter Him today. How wonderful and powerful to know that He is just as real to us, who never saw Him in the flesh, as He was to the historical men and women of faith that we'll read about this week.

Till then, God bless you!

This article has undergone ministry review and approval.

Remind Me Who I Am

Remind Me Who I Am

Last night, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" was on TV, and it reminded me of a beautiful conversation I saw unfold on Facebook a while back. One of my friends posted the following on her brother's timeline:

Friend: I think about all the stuff you and (other brother) are doing and I hear this little voice in my head that says..."I got a rock."

Brother: Huh? What do you mean?

Friend: You know, from Charlie Brown when everyone is showing all the good candy they got and Charlie opens his bag and says..."I got a rock."

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day!

Have a wonderful Fourth of July, dear brothers, sisters, and friends!

And now it came to pass that when Moroni, who was the chief commander of the armies of the Nephites, had heard of these dissensions [...] he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it — In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children — and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.

And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land

Marrying Outside The Church

Marrying Outside The Church

We're shifting gears back to you marrieds today. May this topic be thought-provoking.

I've been having what feels like the same conversation with different people about this, so I felt I should share it with you.

Growing up, I always thought that the man I married would already be a member of The Church or at least would convert before we got married, just as my grandfather and father had done. I felt that was expected of me.

Living the Single Life for God

Living the Single Life for God

For today's article, we're focusing back on the singles. Enjoy!

Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching! This invokes one of two feelings: pure excitement (usually for girls and women in a relationship/marriage) and misery (for those who are single and, let's face it, some men.) It's a day every year when we're forced to evaluate our love lives, no matter how nonexistent.
