If You Dread Death, This One's for You

We saved a special article that that Sister Josie Jasmin sent to us for this month's Miracle Monday theme, which was "fear." It's about fearing death. If you can relate to this, then read on for a beautiful message of comfort…

When I was a young person, I had a terrible fear of dying even though I was brought up under the sound of the gospel. For some reason, I would visualize being in the ground and submerged with all of this dirt.

I began to pray that the Lord would take this fear from me, and one night I had a dream.

'Fraidy Flick

Today is the last of our fear-themed Miracle Mondays. We're concluding with a story from Sister Michelle Watson. We also really need more submissions for November's theme — see below!

The lights dimmed in the movie theater where my husband and I were spending a Friday date night. We were whisked through a series of snappy previews, and then the feature presentation began.

But then something very, very strange happened.

Spread the Good Word: Ephesians 4:32

Today's Good Word is a favorite scripture of Sister Teresa Pandone. Do you have a special verse that's given you something to think about lately? Send it to us, and we'll turn it into a spiffy graphic that you can save as your phone's wallpaper or share with a friend.

Playing Second Fiddle

Playing Second Fiddle

The other day, I was thinking about some wonderful, dear saints who recently stopped attending church because … well … a significant other became their No. 1 priority. How often have I seen an individual stop attending right after getting into a romantic relationship?

In a moment of weakness, I wailed to my husband, "Why do the things of God always have to play second fiddle to sex?!"

I'm embarrassed to even type it. But I did say it.

Victory Over Death in the Book of Mormon

Victory Over Death in the Book of Mormon

Jesus Christ gives us victory over death and hell. Often, we quote New Testament passages to proclaim this victory. The Book of Mormon takes us a step deeper into the original meaning of the Hebrew Old Testament to make the same proclamation as the Apostle Paul. By understanding the source language, we gain a greater understanding of prophecy and appreciation for the ancient authorship of the Book of Mormon text.

"…they never did look upon death with any degree of terror, for their hope and views of Christ and the resurrection; therefore, death was swallowed up to them by the victory of Christ over it." (Alma 27:28)

Being the Woman at the Well

Being the Woman at the Well

I have always loved the story and character of Queen Esther. I love her attitude of, “I will do it because I have to, and I am not afraid.”

I wish I had that.

But as I dive deeper into the scriptures that I thought I knew so well, I’ve found a woman that I connect to more than I ever thought.

In John 4, we find the story of the adulteress Samaritan woman who meets Jesus at the well. I'd always previously written her off because adultery is not something I relate to.

But she is so much more than just her sin.

Yannel and the Tornado

Yannel and the Tornado

October is all about scares and spooks for some people. Our Miracle Monday theme for this month, which is "fear," isn't meant to freak you out. We're actually hoping the opposite — that it will plant God's peace firmly in your heart. We think that today's story, from Sister Megan Garcia, will do just that.

The sky was dark, wind was whipping through the trees, and the local TV stations had interrupted all regular programming to follow the tornado warning issued for our county. A tornado had touched down about 40 miles from us, and we were in its projected path.

Spread the Good Word: Alma 60:28

This month's Miracle Monday theme is "fear." We've seen — and we will see — that fear can take different forms. Scripture often admonishes us to fear the Lord, and today's Good Word reminds us that we should fear and respect God above all.

Don't Put Your Foot in Your Mouth

Don't Put Your Foot in Your Mouth

Sometimes I think about my friends or co-workers, and I wonder if they will ever come to Church someday and ask me why I didn't share the Gospel with them sooner. But other times, I stress about sharing the gospel with others.

Who am I kidding? Every new opportunity to explain our church, its teachings, or even to just share my testimony can be riddled with sweat and a mouthful of second-guessed responses.

When Tragedy Strikes

When Tragedy Strikes

As many of you probably saw in the news, an awful tragedy took place here in the Houston area in late August. For no apparent reason, other than being dressed in uniform, a Harris County Sheriff's deputy was murdered. Folks in the entire area were saddened and shocked.

The Sunday after the shooting, one of the sisters here in the area and I had a Sunday school lesson. I had prepared a topic to discuss, but I always like to ask if there are any questions first. Our sister brought up the incident, noting that hundreds of messages had been left for the grieving family on Facebook and other social media outlets.

Fear of Flying

Fear of Flying

Today's fear-themed Miracle Monday is from Sister Kim Komjathy.

I’ve struggled with worry all my life. As I grew into an adult, my anxiety began to affect my work and personal life. I feel that God directed me to many wonderful counselors and doctors who helped me tremendously throughout the years. I’ve also been extremely blessed to have the support of many brothers and sisters who understand and share my affliction. But the thing I thank God for most of all is the knowledge and understanding of anointing.

Spread the Good Word: 2 Nephi 27:23 (Plus Trivia Answers!)

Finally Made Whole

Finally Made Whole

Today, we're sharing the testimony of Sister Missy Munson. This one is a little longer than normal, but it's worth it!

One afternoon in my home, I saw that my daughter, who was 13 at the time, appeared visibly shaken. I asked what was wrong, and she pointed into the kitchen proclaiming that a man was standing in the corner. I cautiously looked around the corner but saw nothing but my daughter insisted a man dressed in dark pants, work boots, and a green jacket was standing in the kitchen. In an effort to calm my daughter, I turned on the light and stepped into the empty kitchen. With tears running down her face, she said the man was reaching out to hug me. After looking through old photos, we realized that the man was my father who had passed away when my daughter was 2 years old.

God Works in Mysterious Ways

God Works in Mysterious Ways

Do you remember when Jesus told His disciples, "What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter" (John 13:7)? Do you remember what Jesus was doing at the time?

He was washing His disciples' feet. How strange for their leader to bow before them and perform a chore normally given to the lowest household servant. It must've been truly mysterious to the disciples at the time.
