What Jesus Did for Me

What Jesus Did for Me

In light of the New Year, I'd like to share a take on one of the "resolutions" I've come up with for myself. This year, my focus is to work on understanding and to always remember what exactly Jesus did not just for me, but to me as well.

So, right now, I want you to picture the New Year's ball that drops in New York City. It's over 1,000 pounds, has a diameter of 6 feet, and reflects innumerable dazzling colors. It's pretty amazing.

Before I met Jesus, that was my life. My life was pretty great, (or so I thought.)

Here are a few funnies to start off your weekend with a smile!

Epic Grace

Epic Grace

Have you ever watched a TV news story showing a candlelight vigil of mourners after a tragic loss? Often the group is filmed singing "Amazing Grace." I always wonder, "Why that song?" It doesn’t seem to fit the circumstance, and there are other hymns that seem more appropriate. Perhaps the global familiarity of that song brings unity and comfort in the middle of such sadness. I wonder if the people in the news clip sing it with understanding.

A Fresh Start — But Not Just for Me

A Fresh Start — But Not Just for Me

At New Year's, we often evaluate ourselves based on how many pounds we weigh, how much money we make, our marital status, or the possessions we own. What if our biggest priority was to evaluate ourselves based on our relationships with other people?

Prayer in 2014

What will be the New Year’s resolution?

The scriptures resound with the glorification of our Saviour and His great condescension to earth. More importantly, we praise God for His birth within our hearts. His promises are sure!

Do Your Best and God Will Do the Rest

Do Your Best and God Will Do the Rest

There was a poster that used to hang in the Sunday school room of the Bronx Mission when I was growing up. It said, Do Your Best and God Will Do the Rest. Every time I was in that room, I looked at the poster and felt such relief because it was a reminder that God carries my load for me.

The Shepherd and the Door

The Shepherd and the Door

Happy New Year's Eve! As we transition into 2014, we hope this message fills you with peace and comfort for the year ahead.

Do you ever think about John 10:7-9 where Jesus says He is "the door" and "the Good Shepherd"? I think we generally understand the reference to Jesus being "the Good Shepherd," but why would the Lord also call himself "the door"? Seems kind of strange, doesn’t it?

Guess the Carol

In lieu of Miracle Monday, we're bringing you another word cloud game. Each of the word clouds below is made of lyrics to popular Christmas songs. The larger a given word is in the cloud, the more often it appears in the song. (Note: Short verbs, pronouns, and determiners aren't included.)

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Do You Hear What I Hear?

In Peru, as in any other nation of the world, parents desire to give the best to their children, especially around Christmas. In many instances, it is physically impossible because of limited resources. In an effort to follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit in her heart, a young sister in the city of Arequipa led a drive to gather food, clothes and toys to distribute to those in need.
